Take New York City, add every horrifying beast, science-fiction
freak and fantasy faerie, shake thoroughly and you've got "Ugly Americans". The animated series follows Mark Lilly, a
social worker at the Department of Immigration, as he helps new citizens both human and "other" adapt to hectic life in
the Big Apple. There are easier tasks than weaning vampires from blood, socializing land-whales and housebreaking
werewolves, but Mark is up to the challenge. Between his stressful job, a zombie roommate and a demon girlfriend, Mark's
lucky if he can sneak in a few minutes of sleep. But who can sleep when there's a drop-dead gorgeous mermaid sitting at
the bar?

La serie gira attorno alle
avventure del protagonista Mark Lilly, che lavora come assistente sociale presso il dipartimento di integrazione di
Manhattan. Si è da poco trasferito in un appartamento con il suo migliore amico Randall Skeffington diventato da poco
zombie per riuscire “a entrare nelle grazie di una bella” che aveva la passione per i non morti, appunto. La
ragazza di Mark è Callie Maggotbone, è una mezza demone e lavora come assistente del boss del dipartimento Twayne
Boneraper giovane rampollo raccomandato, che invece è tutto demone. Collega di lavoro di Mark è Leonard Powers,
(700 anni) Mago dell’assistenza sociale e per mago si intende proprio mago perchè sul lavoro non fa
assolutamente nulla, se non ubriacarsi. L’addetto alla sicurezza Francis “Frank” Grimes, un tipo
molto rigido nelle sue vedute e che non ha la passione per Mark perchè una “femminuccia”. Altri
personaggi importanti sono i frequentatori del suo gruppo per l’integrazione, come Doug, un Koala gigante molto
timido maltrattato da tutti e dal passato oscuro, un uomo biondo chiamato solamente “il croato” che non ha
nessuna regola morale, un robot, un albero in camicia e pantaloni, e un uomo sirena all’incontrario (testa di
pesce e gambe umane). ultima cosa che c’è da sapere è che nella New York di questo cartone i mostri
esistono (se non si era capito). Per mostri si intendono tutti i mostri, sia quelli classici che alcuni inventati e
ispirati e in generale qualsiasi creatura di fantasia.
